Paint Without the Upheaval

Painting a few rooms should not mean living out of boxes. We move furniture to the center and cover it, mask the floors and trim, and paint a few rooms at a time so the rest of the house stays in use.

The finish lasts only as long as the prep. Cleaning, filling, sanding and priming come first, and they get real time on the schedule. Painting can be a project of its own or the last step of a larger remodel.

Surfaces We Cover

  • Walls and ceilings

Bedrooms, living areas, halls and stairwells. Cracks get filled, patches feathered smooth and water stains sealed before the first finish coat goes on.

  • Woodwork and cabinetry

Baseboards, window and door casings, interior doors and cabinet fronts, degreased and scuff-sanded so the new coat bonds and holds up to daily handling.

  • Exterior surfaces

Exterior walls, trim, porches and front doors, with loose paint scraped, bare wood primed and nearby plants and walkways covered.

Good to Know Before Painting

  1. Lead in older paint

A house built before 1978 could hide lead under its newer coats. In that case the prep is done lead-safe, with extra containment and cleanup, and it appears on the estimate as its own line.

  2. Choosing a sheen

Flat finishes hide wall flaws; satin and semi-gloss wipe clean and suit kitchens, baths, trim and doors. We will go over which belongs where before any paint is bought.

  3. Weather for outside work

Outside coats need dry surfaces and moderate temperatures to cure. Exterior days are planned around the forecast instead of squeezed in before rain.

Questions About Painting

Do we need to leave while rooms are painted?

No. We work a few rooms at a time, so most of the house stays in normal use, and we keep the rooms being painted ventilated. Low-odor paints are an option worth asking about.

How are furniture and floors protected?

Furniture is moved to the middle of the room and covered, floors are masked with drop cloths or paper, and switch plates come off. Everything goes back in place once the paint is dry.

Time for a Repaint?

Name the rooms, or the sides of the house, and describe any peeling, stains or cracks you have noticed.
